Sages Academy Produces Excellent Chefs and Foodpreneurs Through Entrepreneurship-Based Culinary Education

The Culinary Arts study program continues to be a favorite choice among today’s generation as a pathway to higher education. Beyond teaching cooking skills, the program provides in-depth knowledge of food and beverages, ensuring students gain a comprehensive understanding of the culinary field. It is undeniable that culinary education contributes significantly to nurturing young generations who are creative, innovative, and adaptive to the dynamic developments within the gastronomy industry. Graduates of Sages Academy not only pursue careers as professional chefs in renowned restaurants but also thrive as successful foodpreneurs who bring innovative local and international culinary creations to life. Sages Academy implements a practice-based entrepreneurship curriculum, equipping students with technical cooking skills, kitchen management, and comprehensive culinary business strategies.

This commitment is reflected in the achievements of the 81 graduates who were honored at the graduation ceremony held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at Vasa Hotel. Sages Academy takes pride in the fact that 68% of its students have already secured employment in the industry before completing their studies. One such example is Calista Devina Stevani, class of 2022, who received the highest GPA award and is now working at Butter Baby. Another graduate, Michael, has successfully established his own business — a bakery called Breadlicious. What began as his internship and final project has now grown into a thriving business that has received orders from cities beyond Surabaya.

The graduation ceremony was made even more special with a virtual address from the Minister of Tourism, represented by Mrs. Kadek Puspa, the Deputy Minister of Tourism of the Republic of Indonesia, as well as speeches from the Governor of East Java, represented by the Head of the Tourism Office, the Mayor of Surabaya, the Head of LLDikti Region VII East Java, and Mr. Kim Sangki, the Co-Founder of Sages Academy. Additionally, Drs. Bawa Mulyono Hadi, M.M, the Director of Sages Academy, delivered a report highlighting the academy’s growth and achievements.
