An inspiring charity event entitled “Charity and Bakery Workshop” was successfully held by The Sages International Culinary Academy in collaboration with Hotel Mercure Surabaya. This event aimed to raise funds to improve the facilities and quality of education at Dr. Soetomo IX Public Elementary School (SDN Dr. Soetomo IX) in Surabaya.
The event consisted of two main parts a Baking Workshop and a Charity Gala Dinner which not only entertained participants but also delivered a meaningful impact to the beneficiaries.
Baking Workshop, Held in the professional kitchen of The Sages Academy, the baking workshop was open to the general public, including youth, culinary enthusiasts, and students. Guided by experienced chefs from The Sages, participants were taught the technique of making butter fruit cake. The workshop served not only as a learning opportunity but also as part of the fundraising effort: all registration fees from the baking class were fully donated to SDN Dr. Soetomo IX.

Charity Gala Dinner, As the highlight of the event, the Charity Gala Dinner took place at the Manjoo Hall, The Sages International. The evening featured exclusive dishes crafted by The Sages’ students and was accompanied by live acoustic music. All proceeds from the gala dinner including the baking workshop fees were dedicated entirely to supporting the procurement of learning materials and renovation of classrooms at SDN Dr. Soetomo IX.
Director of The Sages International Culinary Academy, Bawa Hadi, stated, “Through this event, we want to show that the culinary world can also be a bridge for social change. We are proud to share our skills while making a real impact on children’s education in Indonesia.”
Meanwhile, Ms. Serli, representing the General Manager of Hotel Mercure Surabaya, added, “Hotel Mercure is always committed to supporting social and educational initiatives. This collaboration is one of our concrete efforts to uphold social responsibility.”
The Principal of SDN Dr. Soetomo IX, represented by Ms. Dini, a student advisor, expressed her gratitude for the support provided. “This assistance means a lot to us. We hope that events like this will continue and inspire others to care about primary education.”
This charitable initiative is a prime example of positive synergy between vocational education, the hospitality sector, and the wider community in supporting the future of younger generations.
