Enthusiastic about making kimchi, Ciputra University students show their interest in the culture of the Land of Morning Calm.

Language is a unique skill that everyone must possess, as it serves as a transactional medium for conveying messages from one individual to another. It is therefore not surprising that many families strive to equip their children with foreign language skills from an early age. Beyond the family sphere, schools also make significant efforts to ensure that students are well-prepared to communicate in foreign languages. Ciputra University, through its Department of Humanities and Interdisciplinary Studies, has taken concrete steps to equip its students with foreign language proficiency. In the fifth semester, students are given the opportunity to study both the language and culture of various countries. Languages such as English, German, French, Chinese, and Korean are taught, depending on students’ interests in each cohort.

In October, the Department of Humanities and Interdisciplinary Studies at Ciputra University organized a Kimchi-Making Class for students enrolled in the Korean language program. The session invited Sages Academy through SKCC as the guest speaker to provide hands-on guidance and educational insights into the kimchi-making process. The two-hour Kimchi Class was attended by approximately 25 to 30 participants per session. During the practical session, students were divided into small groups of four to five members. The kimchi they made was then fermented and ready to be enjoyed four days later. According to Melisa, a representative of the Department of Humanities and Interdisciplinary Studies, this was the third collaboration between the department and Sages in organizing cultural activities related to Korea. She expressed her hope that this partnership with Sages through SKCC will continue in the future, particularly in providing more educational experiences about Korean culture.
