A gingerbread house is a decorative structure made from ginger-flavored cake, typically brown in color and adorned with various colorful decorations. Philosophically, the gingerbread house symbolizes the home as the center of life—a place of shelter, shared affection, and the creation of memories. Sweet ingredients such as ginger, honey, and sugar represent warmth, hope, and kindness, while the distinctive aroma of spices evokes a sense of comfort and nostalgia. In the period leading up to Christmas, Gloria Christian School 2 organized an activity involving 20 participants, consisting of 16 students and 4 teachers, to create gingerbread houses. As gingerbread houses are generally made in relatively large sizes, time efficiency was taken into consideration. Therefore, on December 16, 2025, at Sages Academy Surabaya, the participants created mini gingerbread houses.
The purpose of this activity was to strengthen cooperation between Sages Academy and the Gloria Christian Foundation, as well as to provide students with practical knowledge and skills in making gingerbread houses. The production process, which requires precision, patience, and creativity, reflects the values of teamwork and perseverance. Gingerbread houses are rarely made individually; they are usually assembled together with family or within a community, making them a symbol of togetherness, collaboration, and emotional bonds. However, on this occasion, the students and teachers of Gloria Senior High School 2 created their gingerbread houses individually, which allowed greater room for personal creativity. According to Jenifer, the Event Supervisor, this group cooking activity is a routine program organized by Gloria School, each time adopting different themes. In her interview, Jenifer expressed her hope that this collaboration will continue, enabling Gloria students to gain new insights in the fields of culinary arts and pastry baking through cooking workshops, seminars, and other programs, and that such activities may also be recognized as part of the implementation of the university’s Tri Dharma responsibilities.
